According to ATTOM’s Q1 2026 U.S. Home Flipping Report, 64,348 single-family homes and condominiums were flipped during the first quarter of 2026, representing 8 percent of all home sales completed from January through March.

The report stated that nationwide, the home-flipping rate of all home sales nationwide in Q1 2026 was up from 7.2 percent in the previous quarter but down slightly from 8.2 percent a year earlier. Despite the quarterly increase in market share, the total number of homes flipped fell to 64,348, down from 69,711 in Q4 2025 and 70,579 in Q1 2025.

The latest home flipping analysis also found that the typical profit margin on a home flip improved slightly in Q1 2026, rising to 25.4 percent from 24.7 percent in the previous quarter, which had marked the lowest return since mid-2008. Even with the quarterly gain, margins remained below the 29.6 percent return recorded in the first quarter of 2025.

The flipping report also revealed that profit margins on home flips increased from the previous quarter in 55.2 percent (96) of the 174 metro areas analyzed.  Among metros with populations over 1 million, the largest typical profit margins were in Pittsburgh, PA (85.9 percent); Buffalo, NY (84 percent); Virginia Beach, VA (74.9 percent); Baltimore, MD (65.9 percent); and Philadelphia, PA (62 percent).
